EMERGENCY SERVICES PRIORITY
The Netherlands gives priority to emergency services
Getting from A to B as quickly as possible: crucial for fire brigades, ambulances and police services. Just a few seconds can literally make the difference between life and death. Therefore, these emergency services benefit significantly from the information provided by Talking Traffic.
Communication between the vehicle and the intersection is critical. The emergency call centre reports an incident. At that moment, the itinerary will be made known. The traffic lights now know that an emergency services vehicle is on its way and can pave the way for it. Cars on the road, which the emergency services vehicle needs to pass, will get a green light to drive off before the emergency services vehicle arrives. The emergency services vehicle receives the highest priority, in other words, a green wave to the scene of the incident. Road safety benefits from emergency services for vehicles no longer have to run the light, and the services reach the incident locations more quickly.
Road users get early warning emergency vehicles.
If drivers suddenly hear a siren behind them, this can sometimes cause nervousness. Some people even ‘freeze’: they do not know how to respond for a brief moment, understandably, as it requires a deviation from regular traffic regulations making the traffic situation much less predictable.
Talking Traffic warns road users of approaching ambulances or fire engines much sooner. They will no longer be taken aback by upcoming sirens and have more time to make room for the emergency services vehicle. This makes driving a lot safer both for road users and emergency services.
Traffic Live Exchange Platform
TLEX is the connecting platform that facilitates communication between traffic lights and road users. Monotch provided the interface to unlock the data from the intelligent traffic lights. Based on a link with the traffic control installations, Monotch made data communication available to road users via an IF2 interface. Of course, with a minimum of latency and maximum security.
